Membership Information

Welcome to the fascinating world
of thoroughbred racing . . .

NOW IS THE TIME TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE ARIZONA THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS ASSOCIATION. This is a very changing and challenging industry and we need your help in carrying on the goals and achievements set forth in the beginning of the Association.

The A.T.B.A. was organized in 1967 as a non-profit organization "dedicated to the betterment of the Thoroughbred industry in the State of Arizona." Since 1967, the Arizona Thoroughbred Breeders Association has had an influence on almost all aspects of racing laws and regulations which has benefited all horsemen running in the State of Arizona.

Fifteen directors, serving for three years each on a rotating basis, govern the policy of the Association. The directors also assume duties during the year such as attending Arizona Racing Commission meetings and monitoring legislative matters pertaining to our industry. Among our accomplishments was the establishment of a fund for Stallion Awards and the defeat of a bill that would have brought about the loss of some of our owners awards.

The main source of income for the A.T.B.A. is our annual fall Thoroughbred yearling and mixed sale. Consignments come from all over the western part of the United States. All yearlings that are consigned (and go through the sale ring) become eligible for the two A.T.B.A. Sales Stakes (colts/geldings & fillies divisions) which are run the following November as 2-year-olds. The Sales Stakes has an estimated purse of $100,000 for each division.

The A.T.B.A. also administers the Arizona-bred Certification Program. In this program, the A.T.B.A. has been given authority by the state to authenticate the increasingly valuable Arizona-bred. Also, as a courtesy, the A.T.B.A. verifies all Arizona-breds entered for each race run at Turf Paradise, assuring awards for the breeder and/or owner of Arizona-breds.

Every two months the A.T.B.A. publishes the Arizona Thoroughbred which features subjects regarding breeding and information about the Thoroughbred athlete in general. The magazine is included with your membership. Along with the magazine, the A.T.B.A. maintains its own library where current Thoroughbred magazines, broodmare and sire books, periodicals and other informative reading materials are available for our members use. Also, through the A.T.B.A.'s computer link with the Jockey Club, pedigrees and race records of registered Thoroughbreds are available to our members for a minimal fee.

Each year the A.T.B.A. coordinates and provides funding for ARIZONA THOROUGHBRED FESTIVAL, an exciting event which provides a high exposure showcase for Arizona-bred talent. The awards presentations of the previous year's Arizona-bred Champions also take place during this program and all A.T.B.A. members are invited to attend a luncheon and join in the celebration of the Arizona Thoroughbred industry.

There has never been a better time to join. Exciting events are continuously proceeding and we earnestly solicit your membership. Please fill out the application for membership, include the $75.00 annual fee and return to the A.T.B.A., P. O. Box 41774, Phoenix, Arizona 85080.
