Certification of Arizona Breds

BROODMARE REGISTRY
Why
Broodmares must be registered in this program as a first step to enable foal certification as an Arizona bred

How:
1 A copy of the Jockey Club papers for each broodmare entered in the registry. This is needed for indentfication purposes.
2 A $10.00 fee for each broodmare for initial registration or the transfer of ownership.

ATBA is an agent of the state assigned to this program not to police but to authenticate the increasingly valuable Arizona Bred. All procedures described in conjunction with thes program will be accomplished at or through this office. According to ARS §5-114

Annually: Owners and/or breeders will be requested to provide information regarding their mares and foals to update our files Stallion owners will be requested to submit copies of the report of Mares Bred (send to the Jockey Club each season) by August 1st

CERTIFYING FOALS AS ARIZONA BREDS

Why:
Arizona Bred certification will enable breeders and/or owners to receive awards.

How:
1. The mare must be in the broodmare registry.

2. A mare must foal in the state of Arizona for that foal to be eligible for arizona bred certification.

3. The foal must remain in the state of Arizona for six (6) months out of the first year of life. This is subject to verification.

4. Certification Application must be completed and signed by all breeder names listed on the Jockey Club Certificate before a Notary Public. (see example)

5. Original Jockey Club papers must be stamped with the Official Seal by the ATBA.

Fees:
If applied for by September 30th of the foals yearling year: $35.00

If applied for by December 31st of the foals yearling year: $50.00

If applied thereafter: $100.00

*VERIFICATION PROCEDURES


An agent of the ATBA will verify information by telephone, field inspection, or by documentation submitte by the breeder and / or owner. Health certificates, veterinarian bills, farrier bills, affidavits, etc, may be required to ascertain residency requirements.

Also, as a courtesy, the ATBA verifies all Arizona Breds entered for each race run at Turf paradise. The Horseman's Bookkeeper is immediately notified of any change of status regarding Arizona Bred eligibility, assuring awards for the Breeder and/or owner of Arizona Breds.

Commericial meets in Arizona offer Arizona bred restricted races daily with higher purses.

Breeders receive up to 36% of the winners share of the purse. As an owner you may collect 15% - 25% of the winning purs. Thus as a breeder/owner you may be awarded up to a 51% in additional monies of the winners purse.

Authority is granted to the Arizona Thoroughbred Breeders Association for Arizona Bred certification per the Arizona revised statute §5-114 as amended to Chapter 238 of the Senate Bill 1475 and signed by the Governor, November 22, 1988.
